A Historical Perspective

During the early 1900s, the native Americans were hindered in every possible way and even their methods of gambling were considered illegal and not acceptable by the government of the United States of America. Their social games from their culture were a means of gambling for the m and the government saw this as a competitor to the casinos and the millions of dollars invested in them.

They sat down to find a solution to this and recognized the ways of gambling of the natives without compromising on the security of the mainstream casinos. There were states who altogether weren’t in the favour of casinos or any other form of gambling while the other states were protecting their big fish casinos and going against the decision to accepting the native people’s way of gambling.

While there were officials who wanted the gambling ways of the Native Americans to be accepted as they saw it as an opportunity for them to grow and bring revenue to the community and decrease the widening gap between them and the non-natives.

After all considerations in 1988, the IGRA was passed which was a bill giving the Natives the right to gamble and recognized and legalized gambling there.

IGRA was the reason the class 2 and class 3 slots machines that we see today exist and at that time it categorized gaming into 3 categories.

IGRA 3 categories

The 3 categories created after the passing of the act of IGRA in 1988 are these.

Class I

These games are for charity and to give the social games or tribal games much-needed importance so they don’t die out and are preserved. There is not the intention of making profits by arranging these games.

Class II

These are all the games that are an equivalent of bingo or  the bingo itself.’

Class III

These are games that are played on the table like blackjack.

Why were these classes created?

The classes were created because class II was considered to be less immoral in nature as it contains bingo and its equivalents,. bingo was considered a more fun way to play with family or a group rather than for gambling purposes. Thus this gave rise to the difference been drawn between both the classes. The slot machines that are remade now, are with respect to class II and class III. For example, you see a class II machine then be sure that it is designed in such a way that it has the basic principles of bingo behind it and is a way to have some fun n while the class III machine is supposed to be for purely gambling purposes.

The machines in some states of the USA have to clearly adhere to the principles set by IGRA in 1898 when making the slot machines.

The logic of class II and class III slot machines

The logic behind them is of utmost importance and it can’t be denied. When playing on a class II slot machine vs a class III slot machine you need to be aware of what you are going to do differently on each and what are the important logical thinking in play.

Class II slot machine logic

Having the principles of bingo in mind, the class II slot machines are designed that when a particular outcome comes you win big. If this outcome comes for example for one player, then it will be impossible for another player to have the same outcome, this makes it more fun than gambling. The winning outcome is programmed to come once and it can not come for another player.

There is a bingo game running in the background when you hit the slot machine of class II. a predetermined bingo outcome is assigned to a pool of players and then the winning outcome goes with one player only out of the pool.

The bingo has a maximum of infinite players but the minimum is always 2 and the class II machine runs by that principle. This is more like a lottery than a slot machine.

Class III slot machine logic

The Class III slot machines run on the principles of RNG. There are a million combinations because of these complex numbers involved and the outcomes can be zillion or even squillions. The principle that only one winning outcome is there in the whole pool of players is not there and thus the chances of winning are more than class II slot machines, right? The answer is no! The reason behind this is that as the combinations are in zillions and squillions then the chances of winning decrease. The simple rule is, more the combinations less are the chances of winning, and the people more addicted to gambling and the urge to win the great reward increases.
